Bayern Munich v Athletico Madrid: Offence v Defence

German giants Bayern Munich hosted Spain's Athletico Madrid in tonight's 2nd leg of the Champions League Semi-Final tie.

It was unquestionably an enthralling game from start to finish which saw penalties being saved at each end. The game ultimately came down to a tactical battle comprised of offensive focus versus prioritizing defence with Athletico winning the tie on away goals.

On paper Bayern is the superior team with the likes of Lewandowski, Müller and Ribéry leading the line. However it was Atletico's defensive solidarity and organization which proved victorious, they remained tight and waited for the perfect opportunities to counter attack. Although it is perhaps not the most entertaining approach to the world's most popular sport, it certainly adds value to the adage, "the best defence is a good offence".
