Spanish Super Cup: Sevilla v FC Barcelona [Review]

The curtain-raiser to the Spanish season usually features the reigning champions of La Liga and the Copa del Rey. Due to Barcelona winning both earlier this year they faced Copa del Rey runner-up, Sevilla FC.

Tonight was the first leg and in some ways it went as expected and in others it didn't. In the first half Sevilla were on top with the majority of possession and more chances created. Despite seemingly playing better, they couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. With the recent departure of Kévin Gameiro it seems that Sevilla have their work cut out to find his replacement.

In the 2nd half Barcelona came alive and began to handle the game as many expected them to do so from the start. New signing Denis Suárez put a beautiful ball into the box for Turan who chested it down to Suarez who finished with little problem. Later Munir came on and looked lively and towards the end was served a smooth through-ball from Lionel Messi. Munir showed great calmness in front of the net and finished clinically in order to give Barca a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd leg.
